iPod Troubles

Tuesday, June 3, 2008

So this morning I was running a little late going out to get on the bus. But first I had to drop off our rent check. As a result of my short detour, when I got to the entrance to our parking lot I saw the bus waiting at a red light. Startled, I started running to make sure I could cross the street, but alas, my ipod was in my shirt pocket, and as a result of my running it escaped, crashing to the ground at my feet. Pissed, I picked up the scratched machine and hurried along to the bus (of course the light took forever to change and I would have had plenty of time had I just walked).
Anyway, because I had run I had a minute to start my ipod before the bus got there. I had been listening to Foo Fighters, but I decided it was time for something else, so I tried to listen to Glen Phillips, but when I hit the select button nothing happened. Well the bus came and I got on, still with no music. As I showed Amanda a few months ago, there is a simple way to reset your ipod, so I did that, but after the apple came I was hit with this...

I had never seen this before, but immediately I knew it was not something good. Stranded on the bus with no music to listen to I decided to call and make an appointment with a mac genius, but, blerg, you can only make appointments from a computer, and my computer does not get internet on the bus. So I called apple tech support only to find out to my utter dismay that accidental damage is not covered on my applecare warranty. Frick, double frick!!!

Well, when I got to work I started troubleshooting to figure out if there was anything I could do to fix it. But there appeared to be nothing that could be done. Now that I had internet access, however, I decided to set up an appointment at the genius bar and see if they could help me. Luckily I was able to get in fairly quickly, so I headed down to Gateway to try and resolve the issues.

Of course I didn't want to tell the genius that I had dropped my ipod and that is why it doesn't work, but I wasn't going to lie to him and say that I hadn't dropped it, so I just answered his questions, very specifically. He asked how I was doing and what I could do for him. I answered that other than the ipod issue I was good, and he could help me by fixing my ipod. I told him that when I had try to select music the ipod froze and so I reset it and all I could get was the picture above. He said, ok let's see what is wrong, then he put the ipod up to his ear and said, your hard drive is shot. The he asked me if I use it to work out, I replied that I do and he said you shouldn't because it will do this eventually. He typed in the serial number and found that my warranty was still active and he gave me a new ipod. Yay me! Luckily this time I have all my music backed up, but this time I will put less music on it, only music that I really want, and save some space. It seems to run better when I have less on it. Anyway, that is my scary day so far. Thanks for sharing it with me.
Gruss di.

I just commented on Amanda's blog about New Kids. Hopefully she doesn't think I'm a total freak! Hope things are well for you all!
