I didn't want to, but . . .

I had chosen not to blog about the extremely disappointing loss last weekend suffered by the Utes at the hands of the Kitties. I won't comment on the poor officiating in the last two minutes, nor on the completely bone-headed play by Bryce McCain leaving Austin Collie wide open on 4th and 18 (which handed the game to the refs to hand to the Kitties). My only comments will be in regards to BYU fans.

I have attended games in many locations and with many different teams. I have observed a few things regarding fans. Wyoming fans are vicious. Boise State fans are absolutely annoying due to extreme arrogance. Ute fans are like all other fans and think they know the game much better than they actually do. All fans are annoying when they win a big game. All fans are sore losers when they are on the losing side of a big game. But more than anything else, THERE ARE NO FANS WORSE THAN BYU FANS!!

First of all, the U's fight song, Utah Man, is somewhat Polka-ish, I can admit it, but "Rise and Shout"? To quote Gob, "COME ON!"
Second, I am a Star Wars fan, but lose the Empirial March; it just makes you look stupid.
Third, just because you go to the school owned by our Church, get off your high horse. Always remember, THE PROPHET IS A UTE! So are numerous members of the Twelve (including one who was an All-American for the Utes).

To illustrate my point about how annoying BYU fans are, last year, after we lost, I was reading the newspaper and Wayne Rout, from El Paso, Texas had submitted a comment regarding the rivalry. His comment was titled "Mormons ought not root against Y." and read, "I can't imagine how any active member could root against BYU. I can't respect any who do. I have no problem with their supporting another team for whatever reason, but there should be a clear dividing line." Sorry Wayne, but I think Elder Wirthlin might qualify as an "active member" and I think he deserves your respect. This is one problem with Y fans.

Now I know, I am a Ute fan, and we have lost two years in a row, so I am bitter. And it is a rivalry, and rivalries bring out the worst in fans. But I have been to numerous BYU games in Provo, which were not against the U. BYU fans are the most annoying, unloyal fans I have ever seen.

In closing, I love that anyone who went to BYU thinks that they are smarter than those of us who went to the U. Let me just say, I love that argument. If you think that, let's compare high school GPA's. Trust me, I didn't go to the U because I couldn't get into the Y. I chose to go to the U, inspite of my ability to get into the Y.

That will do for now. Sorry for the blow up. Thanks for letting me vent.

Wow Spencer, way to throw out some broad generalizations. You should know that there are many great fans at BYU and not all fit the bill of the annoying, holier-than-thou, ignorant, obnoxious fans. I would expect more from you than to jump to such conclusions.
I know of much worse, much more annoying fans than the stereo typical zoobs at BYU or the stero typical drunk anti-mormons at Utah (which by the way are retarded stereotypes because I know of drunks at BYU and ultra zoobs at the U). Have you ever been around an Ohio State fan? Yeah, they are exponentialy worse than even the worst at BYU and Uof U. Their arrogance is sickening. Or how about fans from some of those SEC schools where football is there religion and they can't even count past their fingers and toes? Or the worst in the country are all the California schools and teams that instantly become the "team" of the hollywood stars once they start winning. Gag me!
Anyway, I could refute your points as to why BYU sucks, but I don't want this to turn into a pissing contest. Admit it, the U of U has its attractions and so does BYU. They aren't as different as people try to make them out to be.
PS-as for loyal fans, don't even get me started on the Ute fans the past couple of seasons and their attendance to games and reactions when Utah started this season with a few losses. Not a lot of loyalty there. My point is, don't go pointing fingers so quickly. Remember the old saying, when you point the finger at someone there are three more pointing right back at you! Word.

I have a few things to say on this matter. First and formost the stats tell all. BYU is a much better team. Second You can complain all you want about BYU fans but at least ours do not drink themselves into a stupor and act like white trash. My brother in law who is a Ute fan that has season tickets even admitted that he has never seen more white trash in his life then when he goes to a ute game so you call BYU fans what you want and I will just smile knowing of all the white drunken trash that comes out of that cheap stadium that can't even compare to BYU's facilities. Thirdly when BYU leaves Utah in the dust in the Mountain West conference while we play with the big dogs in a BCS conference you still won't be the conference champs nor will you be playing in a BCS bowl ever again mostly because of the fat slob of a coach that only knows how to do trick plays and act like a total a$$. (Wyoming) What a freaking jerk that has no respect what so ever. You won't find a more respectable coach than Bronco Mendenhall. You will never catch him running up the score or throwing in an onsides kick when we are up by 30. Last of all I would like to comment on your comment about the officiating. I won't say much but I found it to pretty even. The call where Collie scored a touchdown and they took it back saying he pushed off. Well I don't think he did push off but the officials think he did so that was the call. Don't go using that as an excuse when you know darn well that BYU just out played Utah in every aspect if the game and the stats show it and so does the score. If the stats were more even then you may have a case. That is all I have and you know that I am going to have to defend my team just like you do yours. Now I feel better. BTW your son is very cute.

Cody, I am sorry, you have a point, and I will correct my generalization. THERE ARE NO FANS WORSE THAN BIG 10 AND BIG 12 FANS. Other than that, my generalization applies. SEC fans may be ignorant, but they are nowhere near as arrogant or obnoxious as BYU fans. ACC fans are probably worse than SEC fans, but still don't compare. As for the Pac-10 I hate USC, and their fans are annoying (possibly more so than BYU) but I don't give them much credit because they are "Hollywood"

Once again, this is a generalization of the masses. I am fully aware that there are many Ute fans that are annoying as hell (a point I made in my posting) and there are BYU fans who are very classy and great fans. I am basing my argument on my experiences sitting in the stands at BYU games (not against the U) and U games (not against the Y). There are many ignorant U fans, but they don't tend to be ignorant and arrogant like the Y fans.

Well Natalie, my comment about the refs really only refers to the unnecessary roughness call on BYU's last drive. That hit was nothing compared to the no-call that Kehl layed on our receiver (remember, it was the helmet to helmet hit that practically knocked out our receiver). I am all about letting some things go, but be consistent. If you don't call a helmet to helmet hit, you can't call the hit on the last drive. If the helmet to helmet had been called, I would have no problem with them calling our hit.

As for the facilities, there are only two things that the Y has an advantage in with regards to facilities. The stadium can fit more people (roughly 20,000 more, which I will admit is significant) and the food at the concessions at the stadium is better. Rice Eccles is a nicer stadium in every way but the food and the number of seats. However, more than half of our seats are seats, not bleachers, and we can get a real coke at Rice Eccles. This doesn't even take into account the bathrooms, or steepness of the stadium (which makes it so you are not getting too much further away vertically as well as horizontally when you have high seats).

Well this Natalie "character" is a huge BYU fan and I also worked with Spencer years back and enjoyed bantering with him about the Y and the U. It is all in good fun I assure you. The brother in law is actually done with law school and works at a very succesful law firm in SL called Parsons and Behle. So I can assure his tickets are not cheap. Well Spencer as for the helmet hit I missed that becuase my son was a stinker the last 5 minutes of the game. However I will argut that Utah has some dirty players on their team who several times this and last year tried to purposley injur our players. I realize that maybe most don't care what I think on this blog I just couldn't help myself because I have always enjoyed bantaring with Spencer. It is all in good fun and meant to be harmless I assure you of that. Also have you ever been to the BYU practice facilities? I do realize there are good people that go to the U and that they have done really awesome things in research for Medical and other things. I do not hate they U one bit just their sporting programs. I actually have good reasoning to as well. Anyhow no harm meant to you or your wife. I am just a "character" enjoying the old times. Take care.

Natalie,
Amanda thought you were just a random person looking at the blog. She felt bad when she asked me who you were and I said that you were someone I had worked with, so she deleted the comment. Anyway, hopefully you aren't offended, she definitely didn't want to insult someone who actually is welcome to comment (no matter how ridiculous the comments are j/k). Anyway, feel free to comment all you want. Gotta go now, I will comment on the rest later.

No worries I figured as much. I look forward to the comments. I guess I should get a life but I know if you say that I can say something about Hannah Montanna. But I won't cause I actually enjoy the show as well. Don't tell my husband. I just say my daughter is watching it and so he thinks its on for her. Ill check back later.

Well said Spencer. It was tough losing back-to-back heart-breakers to BYU. Overall, it was a great game minus the last 1:38. Actually, forcing BYU to 4th and 18 was outstanding for Utah. Unfortunately Collie was left wide open. He did nothing spectacular of himself, it was Utah's defense that let him make that catch. Of course, Collie did help us understand that he was more righteous, and that led to the Lord taking BYU's side and helping them win the game. Good thing those 27 RM's on Utah aren't as righteous as Collie, or my testimony might be shaken (sarcasm).

Ute fans are all the same. You should all pat yourselves on the back for being so stupid. For every player that scores a touch down, sacks the QB, stops a big play from happening or and spectacular thing like that and then points to the sky thanking the almighty one above, is not saying God chose him to be better at that moment then the other player. Just as Collie did not say God chose BYU to beat Utah becuase the are hollier than them. His comment was taken out of context. When you thank the Lord for your saftey from travel and then another family crashes do you think they think you are more holier than them because you were blesses with safety? So don't rip on Collie who is a heck of a lot better reciever than anyone the utah team.

Thanks for having absolutely no courage to attach your name to your comment. As for all players pointing to the sky when they score, I have already been quoted as saying that if that player is thanking the Lord for blessing them with talent I have no problem with that, but if they are thanking the Lord for blessing them to score right then I do have a problem. Collie's comments were not taken out of context, he said that the Lord blessed BYU to win the game because they were living their lives the way they should on and off the field. Help me understand the context. I know that BYU's PR department did a lot of damage control to try and change the meaning of what Collie said, but from now on Collie should be required to run all comments by the PR department before saying anything to the media.
